QYZN Kitchen Fix-Up
Gamefied Customer eLearning
A Gamefied Customer Training Course
QYZN, a fictional custom kitchens company, wanted to create an engaging resource to help their customers get the most out of their custom kitchens. They wanted the product to provide training on how to use appliances as well as maintenance tips. Most importantly, they wanted a resource that their customers would actually want to engage with.
QYZN Kitchen Fix-Up is a gamefied journey to renovate an old, out-of-date kitchen. Through games and questions, the player learns how to maintain appliances and fixtures. Alternatively, to those customers who prefer a more straightforward approach, they can circumvent the game and head right to a catalog of information.

The Process
While QYZN asked for gamefication for this project, when I spoke to many within the learner age demographic (30-55), they prefered the idea of a straightforward information resource rather than a game. That is why I allow learners to choose which path they will take: play the game or simply look up information in a directory.
The learners needed to be motivated to complete the training; thus, every time they complete a matching game and learn the corresponding maintenance tips, they earn an appliance needed to renovate their kitchen. Renovations aren't complete until they have earned all seven appliances.
Once appliances had been earned, I knew that learners needed to test their knowledge. I loved the idea of a scavenger hunt or escape room, but knew this training module had to be easy to navigate for older customers who may not be the best with technology. I decided to hide final quiz questions and activities within the images of the renovated kitchen; they are revealaed with a click, and once all questions have been answered, the training is complete.
Once the project had been conceived, I created a mock-up in Google Slides and created logos and icons in Adobe Illustrator before designing in Articulate Storyline 360.

Reflections
This was the very first project I ever completed using the free trial of Articulate Storyline 360. After only using IzEasy until this point, a template-based platform, it was freeing to be able to fully allow my vision to come to life.
Designing engaging games helped me to push myself and test my abilities when designing games that I hoped would be engaging and informative.
This project truly became a learning experience for me, and I leveraged the help of experts on the eLearning Heroes when I became stuck. I hope to continue to improve my skills and create more seamless, better designed, more engaging courses from here on out.
Of course, this being another fictional company and brief, I did not have a team to work with or clients to consult. Instead, I conducted my own research on high-end kitchen appliances and their care and tested the project with family and friends.
