William Shakesbeer
Pub Staff Upskill & Reference
A Resource for Overturning Pub Staff
William Shakesbeer, a fictional chain of pubs in the UK, was experiencing high overturn of staff, and service was inconsistent across their locations. They requested a mobile-accessible resource that staff can quickly reference to provide standardized recommendations and information to customers.
By using this resource, pub employees can learn about William Shakesbeer's drink offerings, its brewing process, and background information about the works by William Shakespeare that inspired the menu.

The Process
While I love a good pun and have been a casual consumer of both Shakespeare and beer, I did not have the deep knowledge to create Shakespeare-inspired drinks. I consulted a local Shakespeare acting troupe and asked them to be SMEs for this project. They did not disappoint! With their help, I curated a menu of eight original brews for this imaginary pub.
The learners are employees who needed a quick reference, not a deep-dive. I knew I wanted to create a product with a very simple layout that was easy to navigate.
I also wanted the beers to have distinct logos, so I used the provided color palette to create eight of them with Adobe Illustrator.
I initially created this project using the platform IzEasy, but after fully realizing the platform's limitations, I remade this William Shakesbeer from scratch using Articulate Storyline 360.

Reflections
I created two iterations of this project: the first, in IzEasy, the second in Articulate Storyline 360. IzEasy is a wonderful resource for those with a limited budget who want to create simple, template-based eLearning resources. However, I immediately found IzEasy to be more of an obstacle than an assistant for this particular project. When I started fresh with Articulate Storyline 360, William Shakesbeer immediately became more customized, intuitive, and more closely aligned to my original vision.
The second challenge came from the brief, itself. This resource was meant to be for mobile use, and I had not designed for mobile before. This affected the way I created graphics and how I implemented design. Articulate Storyline 360 is limited in some of its mobile functions (ex: I learned that it cannot swipe between layers), so I had to adjust my designs and triggers accordingly.
